Loses top lineman
McCoy won't have Richie Incognito blocking for him this upcoming season, as the 34-year-old guard plans to retire, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The Bills also will lose starting center Eric Wood, who is expected to retire due to a neck injury. These are troubling developments for a team that was quiet in free agency, with QB AJ McCarron and RB Chris Ivory representing the only major signings on offense. Heading into his age-30 season, McCoy finds himself with a franchise that seems to be rebuilding, though the same thing was said last year and the Bills ultimately squeaked into the playoffs. He expressed his disappointment Tuesday on…read more

General manager Brandon Beane says the Bills remain committed to McCoy -- who will turn 30 in July -- and that he's expected to be a key part of team's attack in 2018, Jadon Ceravolo of the Bills' official site reports. "Yeah. I'm planning on that," Beane said. "He obviously had the little injury at the end of the year. I give him a lot of credit to play in that Jacksonville game with the injury. That shows how competitive he is. He's healthy and ready to go. I expect him back. He'll be a big part of what we're doing in 2018."
Analysis: No NFL player is yet to beat Father Time, especially those that play the demanding running back spot, so as a player in his 30s McCoy can't keep up his excellent work forever. But excellent he was in 2017, carrying the rushing attack with 287 carries for 1,138 yards and six touchdowns, all to go with a team-leading 59 receptions for 448 yards and two more scores. McCoy also showed the moves and flexibility of a 25-year-old and has become more of a leader in recent seasons, so even with an…read more

Provides 119 total yards in playoff loss
McCoy (ankle) rushed 19 times for 75 yards and brought in six of eight targets for 44 yards in Sunday's 10-3 AFC wild-card loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: McCoy was in impressive form in the postseason battle, making an notably quick recovery from the ankle injury that befell him in the Week 17 playoff-clinching win over the Dolphins. The multi-time Pro Bowler ripped off a game-long 25-yard run and added a 16-yard catch among his six grabs, serving as his team's most consistent offensive weapon on the afternoon. However, the 29-year-old wasn't able to put it all on his shoulders, and Tyrod Taylor's head injury on the final drive made Buffalo's…read more

Set to play Sunday
McCoy (ankle) will be active for Sunday's playoff game against the Jaguars.
Analysis: McCoy will thus give it a go Sunday in the franchise's first playoff game since Jan. 8, 2000. It remains to be seen how much work he'll be able to handle, but given the magnitude of the contest, look for the Bills to get the ball into the hands of their top playmaker as much as possible, within the context of McCoy working through a balky ankle. Mike Tolbert and Marcus Murphy are on hand to spell McCoy when he needs a breather, or if he suffers any in-game setbacks Sunday.

On track to play Sunday
McCoy (ankle) is in line to play in Sunday's playoff game against the Jaguars, barring any setbacks in pre-game warmups, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: McCoy, who did not practice either Wednesday or Thursday, was listed as a limited participant Friday, with the report noting that the running back "spent the week watching extra film in order to compensate for potential physical limitations." Confirmation of McCoy's status, either way, will arrive once the Bills' inactives are released in advance of Sunday's 1:05 ET kickoff. In line to provide backfield depth and relief for McCoy, assuming he suits up, will be Mike Tolbert and Marcus Murphy.

Listed as questionable after limited practice Friday
McCoy (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's playoff game against the Jaguars after being listed as a limited practice participant Friday.
Analysis: That McCoy was listed as a limited practice participant after being deemed a non-participant both Wednesday and Thursday is a step in the right direction, but his status for this weekend's game is tied in large part to how well his ankle responded to Friday's work, and will likely not be confirmed until the Bills release their inactives prior to Sunday's 1:05 ET kickoff. Given the magnitude of the game, we'd be surprised if McCoy didn't try to give it a go, but that's not a lock at this stage…read more

Some participation
Bills coach Sean McDermott said that McCoy will "do some things today" in the individual part of Friday's practice and that the team will go from there with his injured ankle, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: McCoy is almost certainly trending toward a questionable designation for this week's playoff game in Jacksonville, and the matter truly won't be settled until Sunday morning's game-day announcements.

Tentatively optimistic
McCoy wants his injured ankle to be healthy enough to the point he'll be able to make the necessary cuts to be effective in Sunday's wild-card game at Jacksonville, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. "I just want to be able to cut well enough where I don't have a lot of pain when I'm cutting," said the running back. "I just want to be close or the best as far as 100 percent I can get. But a game like this you've got to lay it on the line. If I can't get to 100 percent as long as I'm out there and I can run effective enough, I'll do it. We'll just see."
Analysis: McCoy hasn't practiced the past two days and is no guarantee to practice Friday either, but he's starting to trend in the right direction and is out of the immobilizer boot he had to wear earlier in the week. McCoy has always been a guy that plays through pain, but the Bills almost got burned earlier in the year when he tried to play through an injured hamstring that needed another week of rest. That thought is in McCoy's mind (and probably the coaching staff as well), though he can also be…read more

Will be listed as non-participant at Thursday's practice
McCoy (ankle) will be listed as not practicing Thursday, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Per the report, McCoy's departure from Thursday's practice after the stretching portion of the session was planned. "I think we're headed in the right direction," coach Sean McDermott said afterward, with regard to the running back's status in advance of this weekend's playoff game against the Jaguars. "Will we be able to get there in time? We'll see." We'll revisit McCoy's status Friday, but he continues to trend toward being deemed a game-time decision for Sunday's 1:05 ET kickoff.

Suits up Thursday
McCoy (ankle) suited up for Thursday's practice, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: It won't be clear until after practice how much work McCoy was able to do, but as the report notes, he was able to do more than he did Wednesday just by taking part in stretching drills. More to come on McCoy's status for Sunday's wild-card matchup with the Jaguars, but he is seemingly progressing in the right direction.

Won't practice Wednesday, deemed day-to-day
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said McCoy (ankle) is considered day-to-day and won't practice Wednesday, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com reports.
Analysis: McCoy will skip out on practice a day after Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the running back's sprained right ankle would make him a "game-time decision" for Sunday's wild-card matchup with Jacksonville. With that in mind, it's conceivable that McCoy may not practice in any capacity this week or only on a limited basis, which wouldn't provide much clarity about his status heading into the weekend. Game-time call
McCoy, who suffered a sprained ankle in Sunday's win over Miami, is expected to be a "game-time decision" and a "close call" for Sunday's wild-card game in Jacksonville, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Analysis: Things have been trending in this direction following the positive post-game news that McCoy didn't have anything worse happen to his ankle on a play that saw him pounding the turf and getting carted off the field. A game-time decision will make things risky for those in playoff pools given that lineups may have to be set Saturday in certain formats, while the Bills play Sunday. As for the team making its first playoff appearance since 1999, there would be a significant downgrade if McCoy can't…read more

Could play Sunday
McCoy (sprained ankle) has a chance to play in Sunday's playoff game against the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Supporting that notion is Adam Schefter of ESPN reporting X-rays on McCoy's ankle came back negative. At a minimum, we'd expect the practice participation of Buffalo's lead back to be restricted this week, though working in his favor, at least a bit, is that the team opens its playoff slate Sunday rather than Saturday. If rest and treatment allow McCoy to suit up for the Bills' first playoff game since 1999, Rapoport suggests the running back will be operating at less that 100 percent. In such…read more

McCoy underwent tests on his ankle, which were returned negative, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: While the Bills were able to pull off a 22-16 victory Sunday at Miami, they lost their best offensive player, by a long shot, in the process. Initial examinations have yielded pleasing results, which now must be taken into account as the Bills prepare for their first playoff game since 1999. McCoy rushed 17 times for 71 yards and caught five of seven targets for 76 more in Sunday's 37-16 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: The final score was ugly, but McCoy got no shortage of work as his team actually held a 16-13 lead early in the second half. While many top fantasy assets will be tough to trust in Week 17, McCoy should be deployed as usual in Miami with Buffalo still in playoff contention at 8-7. The veteran running back's ability to contribute as both a rusher and receiver should also ensure plenty of touches in that contest regardless of game flow.

Ready for Sunday
McCoy (rest/knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game at New England.
Analysis: Limited by a knee injury both Wednesday and Thursday, McCoy missed Friday's session entirely, but the addition of "rest" to the injury report suggests the running back merely received a vet day off. When the Bills squared off with the Patriots in Week 13, he carried the rock 15 times for 93 yards, establishing his second-best YPC mark (6.2) in a given game this season. He'll look to find similar success Sunday versus the Pats' 26th-ranked run defense.

Analysis: We'll have to see if the Bills choose to list McCoy as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots or remove him from the team's injury report come Friday. Either way, we expect him to play this weekend, with a solid matchup on tap. To date, the Patriots are allowing an average of 122.3 rushing yards per game, with Le'Veon Bell having logged 117 in Week 15 and Kenyan Drake 114 in Week 14. Analysis: McCoy was also limited at practice last Wednesday, before returning to a full practice Thursday and playing this past Sunday against the Dolphins, en route to logging 20 carries for 50 yards and four catches for 46 yards, while scoring two touchdowns. Look for him to be back at work Thursday, with Wednesday's limitations presumably maintenance-related.

McCoy rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and added 46 yards and a touchdown on four catches during Sunday's 24-16 win over Miami.
Analysis: After capping Buffalo's first drive with a four-yard touchdown run, McCoy struck again in the second quarter when he cut upfield and slipped behind Miami's defense before hauling in a 16-yard touchdown pass. McCoy opened the season on a five-game scoreless streak and had a bit of a lull midseason, but he has now topped 75 total yards in five straight games and has scored four times during that span. Analysis: After logging 32 carries (for 156 yards) in snowy conditions in this past weekend's 13-7 overtime win over the Colts, McCoy's practice reps were managed Wednesday. His return to a full session Thursday puts the running back in line to play Sunday at home against the Dolphins. While it won't exactly be balmy in Orchard Park on Sunday, the area's current weather forecast doesn't predict either snow or strong winds at that time.

Logs limited practice Wednesday
McCoy (knee) was limited at Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: It's suspected that McCoy's limitations Wednesday were maintenance related, after he logged 50 snaps in wintry conditions in Sunday's 13-7 overtime win over the Colts. Despite missing practice time last week while battling a sore knee, McCoy was still able to effectively handle a sizable workload against Indianapolis, gaining 156 yards on 32 carries, with 21 coming on his game-winning touchdown scamper in the extra period.

Caps day with game-winning run
McCoy rushed 32 times for 156 yards and a game-winning 21-yard touchdown run in Sunday's 13-7 overtime victory over the Colts.
Analysis: McCoy was the only Bills skill player to benefit from the blizzard-like conditions in upstate New York on Sunday, as he posted a season-best rushing total. With the passing game significantly compromised due to the weather, McCoy was shut out of the air attack for only the second time in 2017. McCoy rushed 15 times for 93 yards and brought in two of five targets for nine yards in Sunday's 23-3 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: McCoy made the most of his rather limited opportunities in a contest where game script became increasingly unfavorable to the running game. The multi-time Pro Bowler has now averaged between 6.1 and 8.8 yards per carry in three of his past four contests, although Sunday's 15 totes were the most he's logged in any of that trio of games. Does not carry Week 13 injury designation
Though McCoy (knee) didn't practice Friday, he does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: McCoy was held out of Friday's practice to manage some knee soreness, but given that he's not one of the seven players listed as questionable by the team, he's in line to suit up Sunday. With Mike Tolbert (hamstring) one of four Bills ruled out this weekend, Travaris Cadet will once again serve as McCoy's backup in Week 13. McCoy won't practice Friday due to knee soreness, but Bills head coach Sean McDermott expects the running back to play Sunday against the Patriots, Chris Brown of the Bills' official website reports.
Analysis: It seems that the Bills are just going the cautious route with McCoy, but his lack of participation Friday at the least leaves his status for Week 13 in question. There has been nothing to suggest that McCoy won't play this week, but fantasy players hoping to include him in lineups this week will still want to monitor his status. Analysis: McCoy couldn't get anything going on the ground despite tying for his third-heaviest rushing load of the season, averaging just 2.2 yards per carry in this one. His ability to do damage both as a runner and a receiver coupled with a voluminous usage rate make McCoy a dangerous option every week, but he's had some maddening performances for an inconsistent Buffalo offense.

Stymied on ground in loss
McCoy rushed 12 times for 25 yards and failed to bring in his only target in Thursday's 34-21 loss to the Jets. He also recovered a Tyrod Taylor fumble.
Analysis: Coming off a season-best 151-yard rushing day in Week 9, McCoy was stonewalled throughout Thursday's contest by an aggressive Jets front. The multi-time Pro Bowler managed 13 yards on one carry, so his 11 other totes went for just 12 yards. Analysis: McCoy was a true workhorse in this one, setting season highs in carries and rushing yardage while accounting for nearly half of his team's total offensive output. He averaged a meager 3.7 yards per catch, but his seven targets also led the team. Analysis: Believe it or not, this was the first time Shady hit paydirt all season, his first scores since Week 16 of 2016. The 122 scrimmage yards was also his best output since Week 1. The Bills will continue to be a run-oriented team, and if they can start having more games like this where they can figure out their new zone-blocking scheme, McCoy will produce on a level on par with his first-round value. Analysis: McCoy, surprisingly, has yet to score this season, and you can add one more game to that when you count Week 17 of 2016. That's almost unheard of for a player who was taken within the top 10 or so picks of almost any draft. Of bigger concern is the lack of output the last two weeks, as McCoy has an unsightly 30 yards on 26 carries. Analysis: Per Chris Brown of the Bills' official site, McCoy was simply rested Friday, as the running back was dealing with some groin soreness. Despite that, coach Sean McDermott indicated Friday that he is "very confident" that McCoy will be able to handle a full workload Sunday. In Week 1 against the Jets, McCoy was on the field for 54 of the Bills' 77 snaps on offense, logging 22 carries for 110 yards and catching five of his six targets for 49 yards.

Sitting out Friday to rest
McCoy is dealing with "some groin soreness," according to head coach Sean McDermott, and will not practice Friday in order to rest.
Analysis: The wording of McDermott's comments indicates the Bills are holding McCoy out as a precautionary measure, and McDermott did add that "it's nothing serious," but this does at least raise an eyebrow about his availability for Week 2. Expect the Bills to provide another update on McCoy's status following the conclusion of Friday's session.

Ready for Week 2
McCoy (right wrist) practiced Wednesday and said he'll be "fine" for Sunday's game at Carolina, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports. "It's pretty good," he said. "Just getting the swelling down. It's football, you get nicks and bruises all the time."
Analysis: McCoy should be close to 100 percent, though he did mention he might have to keep the ball tucked in a little more than usual. This should be a stiffer test for the Bills after they ran all over the Jets in Week 1, as Carolina held the 49ers to just 51 rushing yards in their own Week 1 win. Plus, the Panthers are a tougher opponent in general, and it's far from a certainty the Bills will be able to dictate a run-heavy mode all game.

Wrist issue not serious
McCoy, who briefly left Sunday's game with a right wrist injury, returned shortly thereafter and says he's fine, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. "I tried to get in the end zone," said McCoy "I jumped in there and I guess the placement of the ball and my wrist, it went numb. I didn't want to be selfish and try to get a touchdown with a numb right hand. I'm known as a back with ball security so I just came out just to see what was going on. I'll ice it and I'll be alright. "It hurt a little bit and then I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't squeeze the ball. Besides we've got a 260-pound back and let him get the touchdown."
Analysis: The fleeting issue may have cost McCoy owners a touchdown, as he had to sub out because he didn't want to fumble with a numb wrist and Mike Tolbert ended up getting the Bills' only rushing score of the day. Tolbert might be doing this even when McCoy is perfectly healthy, so that's the situation that merits watching -- while the Bills want to use the 29-year-old McCoy as much as possible, there's no reason a battering ram like Tolbert can't give him a breather in areas where the wear and tear…read more

McCoy rushed 22 times for 110 yards and caught five of six targets for another 49 in Sunday's opener against the Jets.
Analysis: McCoy briefly exited this one with a wrist injury, but was able to return without issue. His day could've been much bigger, but Buffalo twice scored via the air from one yard out before letting fullback Mike Tolbert vulture a one-yard score on the ground. While the elusive and explosive McCoy is still Buffalo's best option for moving the ball into scoring position, Tolbert's proficiency in close will limit the former Eagle's looks near the goal line.

After practicing fully Friday, McCoy (illness) is not listed on the Bills' final Week 1 injury report in advance of Sunday's season opener at home against the Jets.
Analysis: Earlier this week, coach Sean McDermott suggested that he wouldn't hesitate to give McCoy as much work as his starting running back can handle this season. Following the surprising release of Jonathan Williams, veteran Mike Tolbert, who brings short-yardage skills to the table, now profiles as McCoy's top backup, with Joe Banyard and Taiwan Jones providing the team with further backfield depth.

After missing a portion of Thursday's practice due to an illness, McCoy returned to the field to finish the session, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Per the report, the Bills are still required to list McCoy as limited on Thursday's injury report, but the fact that the running back rebounded from his illness so quickly is clearly a good sign. McCoy is not practicing Thursday due to an illness, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: We suppose the bright side is, if one of your key players gets sick you'd rather have it happen Wednesday or Thursday vs. the weekend. McCoy should still have plenty of time to get better (initial reports say it's a stomach bug) for Sunday's opener against the Jets, where he's expected to have a heavy workload. Bills coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that McCoy will be on the field frequently this season, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports. "The workload, whatever it takes to win the game," McDermott said. "That's how we play the game. We play to win, and whatever it takes to win the game, that's what we're going to do. If it means he's got to play every snap, that's what we'll do if he's feeling good, like it is for every player. I'll look him in the eye, say, 'How do you feel? Feel good? OK, let's go.' No different with LeSean."
Analysis: Some of this might just be coach speak from a first-year head man trying to run a team while management is giving the fan base the impression it could be punting on this season and looking for better days down the road. Even so, there's no doubt that a healthy McCoy will have one of the larger workloads in the league this season, especially with backup Jonathan Williams getting cut and subsequently signed to the Broncos' practice squad. McCoy gained seven yards on six carries and lost two yards on two receptions (three targets) in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore.
Analysis: With Jordan Matthews (chest) absent and Tyrod Taylor lasting just two drives before he suffered a concussion, McCoy was left as the only proven offensive weapon against a Baltimore defense that has been dominant this preseason. McCoy will see action in line with the starters Saturday against the Ravens, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. So we'll see how he feels. He's been in this league long enough to know what he needs to do to get himself ready as he ramps up his rep cycle."
Analysis: We imagine the team will err on the side of caution if McCoy looks polished, as he's well versed on what he needs to do to be ready for Week 1, but it sounds like the team plans on him playing at least into the second quarter.

After seeing the Bills recently deal wideout Sammy Watkins and cornerback Ronald Darby, it's understandable that there there was some speculation that the running back -- who was jarringly dealt by Philadelphia to Buffalo in 2015 -- might be the next one on the move. Coach Sean McDermott implied McCoy won't be seeing a great deal of action during Thursday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. "I've been around LeSean before in his career and my career. We've got some other players on this roster that we need to evaluate and give them opportunities to develop -- and we'll see some of those guys have great opportunities on Thursday night," McDermott said.
Analysis: McCoy is coming off a fantastic season of 1,267 rushing yards and 5.4 YPC, but he's also 29 and the team is trying to save the wear and tear for the regular season. He's the team's main back by a good margin and getting selected among the top 4-6 fantasy backs, though the one worry we have is if the team takes him off the field in goal-line situations. This almost seems likely based on statements by the coaching staff and looking at other short-yardage options the Bills will have on the roster.

Williams has looked like the guy to own as a handcuff to McCoy ever since the Bills let the Patriots steal away Mike Gillislee, and Tuesday's practice offers even more credence to that notion.

Goal-line carries ceded to Gillislee
McCoy's teammate Mike Gillislee is now the team's official goal-line back, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn: "Shady is one of the most explosive backs in the league. He can get a lot of his touchdowns from outside the red zone, but Mike is that decisive, no nonsense type runner that you're looking for inside the three, two-yard line. That's his role and everybody in the backfield knows that's his role and he's going to get those touches when we get down there. And Shady is good with that."
Analysis: This is the one knock on McCoy's value, in that he's been doing great work all season but frequently sits out the final plunge plays of a drive. McCoy (hamstring), who practiced on a limited basis Thursday, noted afterward that he feels good, while adding that he ran routes in his return to practice.
Analysis: McCoy also declared Thursday, " I feel a lot better today than I have." While his comments are no doubt encouraging, how the running back's hamstring responds to the work he did at practice and what he is able to do Friday should be telling with regard to his chances of suiting up Monday night against the Seahawks.

Limited Thursday
McCoy (hamstring) will practice on a limited basis Thursday.
Analysis: Coach Rex Ryan called this a "positive sign" as far as McCoy's potential availability for Monday's game in Seattle. This is also the team's first practice of the week, so McCoy will have two more practices to prove to the Bills and his owners he can handle a full game, one that's pretty crucial to the 4-4 Bills ahead of their Week 10 bye.

Unlikely for Week 8
McCoy (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against New England.
Analysis: With McCoy not practicing at all this week, it seems highly unlikely he'll be suiting up Sunday, but sometimes teams put a little more trust in their star players should the injury all of a sudden start to feel better. It's worth noting this happened last weekend in Miami with McCoy and that did not go well. The Bills play in Seattle next week before hitting their bye in Week 10.

Another missed practice
McCoy (hamstring) is not practicing again Thursday.

McCoy (hamstring) will not practice Wednesday.
Analysis: The Bills and McCoy tried to give it a go with his ailing hamstring last week and that plan failed. Things will get tricky as Sunday's game with the Patriots draws near, as it's clear McCoy needs to take it easy with his injury, yet he's also been saying he didn't suffer a setback Sunday. Looking questionable for Week 8
McCoy (hamstring) is anticipated to be questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Patriots, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: McCoy aggravated his hamstring during Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, limiting him to just 11 yards on eight carries after exiting during the third quarter. He first picked up the injury during practice last week and will likely have his involvement this week impacted as well. That expectation puts McCoy's status in question going into Sunday's matchup with the Patriots, so Mike Gillislee, Reggie Bush and rookie Jonathan Williams will probably receive more reps than usual to prepare for McCoy's…read more

Hopes to be ready for Week 8
McCoy (hamstring) still believes he has a chance to play in Week 8 against the Patriots, ESPN reports. "It's not one of those major issues like last year -- deep, deep pain," he said. "It's something that just takes time. I think a full week of practicing and taking all the steps, I should be fine. We'll see what happens."
Analysis: McCoy said he felt great during pregame warmups Sunday in Miami, but he was removed in the third quarter after feeling some pain in his injured hamstring while running a pass route. He finished with 11 yards on eight carries and didn't have any receptions -- easily his worst performance of the season. McCoy's post-game quote suggests he expects to practice in some capacity this upcoming week, after managing just one limited practice leading up to Sunday's loss. Doubtful to return Sunday
McCoy is doubtful to return to Sunday's game in Miami due to a hamstring injury, ESPN reports.
Analysis: McCoy may have aggravated the hamstring concern that placed a cloud over his availability in Week 7. With just 11 yards on eight carries, he clearly wasn't effective playing at less than 100 percent, and his preparation for next Sunday's showdown against the Patriots could be hindered. For the time being, Mike Gillislee will take on the bulk of the work out of the Bills' backfield.

The veteran running back did admit he was very limited at Friday's session, only taking a few reps with his teammates, according to WKBW's Joe Buscaglia. Sunday status very much in question
ESPN's Josina Anderson is reporting that McCoy (hamstring) will sit out this week's game in Miami.
Analysis: We'll at least note that the "out" status hasn't been confirmed by the team or most other insiders yet, and in fact coach Rex Ryan said not too long ago at his Thursday meeting with reporters that he's hopeful McCoy can still play this week. Wait until further confirmation, but be prepared for negative news concerning McCoy's injury. Coach Rex Ryan says McCoy's hamstring injury isn't "full blown" and the team is still seeing how he progresses in the hope he can play Sunday against the Dolphins.
Analysis: Other sources from around the team are also saying the team plans to take caution with McCoy, especially after a hamstring injury in 2015 lingered pretty much all season and affected his numbers. As of now, Friday's practice looms as incredibly important, and if he can't at least be limited for that one, his absence would likely consist of anywhere from one to three weeks, as the Bills have a bye in Week 10. Unseen for start of Thursday practice
McCoy (hamstring) is not on the field for the start of Thursday's practice, Mike Rodak of ESPN reports.
Analysis: We'll see if the NFL's No. 2 rusher can get out there for any portion, but as for now this is starting to get a bit troublesome for McCoy owners. McCoy (hand) had 150 rushing yards on just 18 carries in Sunday's win over the Rams. He also caught two balls for eight yards.
Analysis: McCoy has put up 330 rushing yards over the last three weeks, all Buffalo wins, so the offense will continue to work through him until someone can stop it. This would have been an even bigger fantasy day for Shady owners had he not been stopped just short of the goal line on two occasions. McCoy feels much healthier entering 2016 than he did prior to last season, when his hamstring was a constant bother, BuffaloBills.com reports. Says the veteran, "This first game means a lot to me. Analysis: Given that he's played in the first two preseason games, McCoy seems to have moved beyond the ankle issue that troubled him during the offseason. A source close to McCoy has said the player is not expecting to be charged for his alleged role in a Feb. 7 nightclub brawl that resulted in two off-duty police officers being injured, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: While we can't be sure how trustworthy this source is, things have been trending in this direction over the last week, as it appears investigators either don't have enough evidence to charge McCoy, or it's turned out he was more of a bystander once all the video footage was pieced through. No matter what happens, McCoy still might be hearing from the league, though if he's not convicted of any criminal activity it would seem to point toward a more modest punishment by the league, if any at all.

While McCoy sits in legal limbo, the Bills are preparing as if the running back "will miss several games to begin next season," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: There have been no developments of interest since it was revealed last Thursday that the Philadelphia District Attorney was "pushing back" against arrest warrants for McCoy and three others for their involvement in an alleged assault of off-duty police officers at a night club in early February. Even if he avoids charges for the incident, the NFL may deem McCoy in violation of the league's personal conduct policy, which would likely be accompanied by a suspension of some type. With that…read more

According to John Gonzalez of CSN Philly, the District Attorney's office is "pushing back" against potential arrest warrants for LeSean McCoy and three others involved in an alleged assault of two off-duty police officers at a Philadelphia night club in early February.
Analysis: The Philadelphia Police Department completed its investigation of the confrontation more than a week ago, but the D.A.'s office has seemingly delayed issuing warrants for McCoy and company due to the conduct of the officers involved in the fracas. In particular, the D.A.'s office is attempting to determine if the officers were drinking excessively and why they failed to call 9-1-1. These particular officers instead transported themselves to local hospitals for treatment, while a third member of…read more

While the police continue their investigation on an alleged assault of two off-duty police officers at a night club in early February, of which McCoy is thought to be involved, no arrest warrants have been issued yet, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: There seems to be some question whether investigators are having a hard time proving who the suspects are based on video evidence, or if the case is such a big deal that they want to make absolutely sure everything is airtight before coming down on a public figure. It's clear the city doesn't take kindly to officers being permanently injured in an ugly incident, so this should continue to be a major news story for weeks if not months of the offseason. And remember, McCoy doesn't have to be…read more

Philadelphia authorities likely won't issue arrest warrants until next week for McCoy (knee) and three others that were involved in an alleged assault of two off-duty police offices at a night club early Sunday morning, CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: The investigation by the District Attorney's office is "moving slowly for a reason," likely in order to put together as many of the pieces of the puzzle as possible. In addition to any legal concerns related to the incident, McCoy can be expected to face consequences from the NFL, but those will likely be delayed while the case works its way through the court system.

Arrest warrants - including aggravated assault charges - are expected to be issued soon for McCoy and three others involved in the Philadelphia nightclub assault of two off-duty police officers early Monday morning, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: McCoy seems to be in hot water for allegedly being at the center of ugly fracas, and will likely be hearing from the league office in the near future as well. Under the league's disciplinary policy, a player doesn't have to be convicted of a crime in order to be fined or suspended, should NFL investigators find McCoy was in fact involved in a negative and embarrassing incident.

McCoy (knee), who is being investigated for an alleged assault, will likely be issued a warrant for self-surrender by the middle of the week, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports.
Analysis: According to CSN Philadelphia, McCoy was involved in a nightclub brawl that led to the hospitalization of two off-duty Philadelphia police officers. He's never faced discipline under the NFL's personal conduct policy, but if his involvement in the brawl is found to be significant, he might eventually face the threat of a suspension. The Bills issued a statement saying that they're aware of the reports but unwilling to provide further comment at the time.

LeSean McCoy: Being investigated for alleged assault
McCoy is one of four people being investigated for an alleged assault of two off-duty police officers at a nightclub in Philadelphia early Sunday morning, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Details are still emerging from the incident, but McCoy's agent Drew Rosenhaus did not immediately return a call from The Buffalo News seeking comment. The Bills issued a statement on Monday morning: "We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and in the process of gathering more information. We will not provide any further comment at this time."

McCoy (knee) won't play Sunday against the Jets, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
Analysis: With McCoy ruled out of the Bills' season finale, the team's Week 17 backfield duties will be handled by a combo of Karlos Williams -- who logged 17 carries for 76 yards and a TD last Sunday -- and Mike Gillislee, who recorded nine carries for 93 yards and a TD in the team's Week 16 win over Dallas.

McCoy (knee) won't practice Wednesday, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
Analysis: With that in mind, coach Rex Ryan acknowledged that it "doesn't look good" with regard to the running back's chances of playing Sunday against the Jets. While McCoy has yet to be ruled out by the Bills, with the team out of the playoff hunt, there's no compelling reason to push him to play in Week 17. In the event that McCoy remains sidelined for the Bills' season finale, Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee would once again be in line to handle the team's backfield duties.

Head coach Rex Ryan said the Bills will err on the side of caution when evaluating McCoy (knee) for Week 17, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW in Buffalo.
Analysis: Given that he didn't participate in practice last week, McCoy doesn't seem like a good bet to make it back for a tough Week 17 matchup with the Jets. The Bills do hope to keep their rival out of the playoffs, but the backfield should be in pretty good hands with Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee.

Analysis: While the Bills haven't ruled McCoy out for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, it doesn't look likely that he will be available for the contest. McCoy (knee) was not spotted at practice Wednesday.
Analysis: At this stage, it doesn't look likely that McCoy -- who left Week 15's game in Washington with a knee injury -- will be available Sunday against the Cowboys. If he is unable to suit up this weekend, Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee would be in line to head the Bills' Week 16 backfield.

LeSean McCoy: Reportedly dealing with MCL issue
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that McCoy tore his MCL on Sunday and is considered week-to-week for the final two weeks of the regular season.
Analysis: Per the report, which the Bills have yet to confirm, McCoy has additional tests slated for Monday, but the running back looks iffy, at best, for this Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Assuming McCoy misses time, next up for the team's carries are Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee, either of whom are worthy of scooping up, if available, by those looking for some late-season RB help.

Analysis: Per the report, McCoy is "thought to be day-to-day," but with that news, the running back's status for Week 16's game against the Cowboys is cloudy. Next up for the team's carries if McCoy is out or limited next week are Mike Gillislee and Karlos Williams.

LeSean McCoy: Ruled out Sunday with knee injury
McCoy has been ruled out of Sunday's game at Washington due to a knee injury.
Analysis: McCoy was removed in the third quarter, and shortly after he went to the locker room, he was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. The quick decision may have been precautionary, or may imply something more serious, but the Bills are apt to update his status once more has been revealed. In his place, Karlos Williams (shoulder), Mike Gillislee, and Anthony Dixon are the remaining options out of the backfield.

McCoy rushed for 74 yards on 20 carries, and caught 4-of-7 targets for 35 more in his return to Philadelphia on Sunday.
Analysis: McCoy saw a heavier-than-usual workload with Karlos Williams (shoulder) inactive, and managed to top 100 scrimmage yards for the seventh straight game as a result. Backup Mike Gillislee got just three carries, but one of them was Buffalo's only rushing touchdown of the afternoon from 19 yards out. While this was a solid outing, owners can't help but be a tad disappointed considering how motivated McCoy was to perform well against the team that opted to trade him in the offseason.

McCoy's teammate Karlos Williams will miss this week's game in Philadelphia due to a shoulder injury.
Analysis: With an ax to seemingly grind against former coach Chip Kelly (why not shake his hand, Shady?), McCoy has a heavy workload in store this week with only Mike Gillislee and Anthony Dixon in line to pick up only an occasional carry. If you want more good news, Shady's got 100-plus yards from scrimmage in each of the last six games, is part of an offense that's averaged 165 yards per game on the ground over the last five, and will face the league's 27th-ranked run defense. McCoy suffered a head injury during the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Texans, though he was cleared to return after passing a concussion test, ESPN.com reports. He finished with 112 yards on 21 carries but failed to catch his only target.
Analysis: McCoy continues to dominate the touches out of the backfield, rushing for exactly 112 yards in three of the past five games. With backup Karlos Williams possibly out again in Week 14, McCoy is likely to get another healthy number of touches against an Eagles defense that is allowing the fifth-most rushing yards per game this season, though they've allowed just four rushing touchdowns.

McCoy rushed 19 times for 70 yards and caught three of five targets for 31 receiving yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Chiefs. However, he also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Backup running back Karlos Williams was knocked out of the game in the first half with a shoulder injury, though it still didn't lead to an overabundance of touches for McCoy, who has rushed 20 times just once this season. Nevertheless, he's found the end zone three times in the last four games, with the non-scoring game coming in Week 10 against the Jets when he had 159 yards from scrimmage. McCoy carried 20 times for 82 yards and a TD and added six receptions (on a team-high 10 targets) for 41 yards in Monday's 20-13 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: McCoy looks healthy and spry out there these days and thus capable of handling a significant workload in the Bills' offense as long as that remains the case. He'll take aim in Week 12 at a Kansas City run defense that has held opponents to an average of 92.6 rushing yards per game to date.

Analysis: Hampered by nagging injuries for much of the past two seasons, McCoy has finally looked like the best version of himself in two games since the Bills' Week 8 bye. Karlos Williams scored yet another touchdown, this time on a 27-yard reception, but McCoy still had a 24-8 advantage in touches, after holding an 18-9 advantage in Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Analysis: McCoy is out there Thursday as expected, but both he and fellow running back Karlos Williams -- who is in line to see his share of touches in Week 10 -- figure to find the yards tougher to come by than they did in this past Sunday's win over the Dolphins, with the Jets defense currently allowing a league-low average of 80.6 rushing yards per game.

LeSean McCoy: Not ruled out for Thursday's game

Analysis: McCoy did not participate in Monday's walkthrough, so it remains to be seen to what extent the 27-year-old will be able to practice in the following days. After sustaining a shoulder injury during Sunday's win over the Dolphins, McCoy will have to make a quick turnaround in order to find the field against the Jets this Thursday.
